Golf
Sunnyside Country Club is a private, 18 hole par 72 golf course presenting variety, challenge, beauty and excitement for everyone from the high handicapper to the scratch golfer. Over the years considerable effort has been made to retain the original design of golf course architect, William Bell. Its flat topography is typical of the San Joaquin Valley and the layout of the course is L-shaped with an elevation of only 200 feet above sea level. Wind, when it is present, is generally out of the north and west, but is seldom a factor in play.
This championship course is maintained in tournament condition year round and accommodates a wide range of golf skills and abilities. Its small, fast greens are a unique design feature which demand precise approach shots. The challenge of the course is manifested in its length, its narrow tree-lined fairways, and 96 sand bunkers which are strategically located on the fairways, on the sides and in front of the greens. The fairways average 90 feet in width and the rough height varies which can also be a factor in the difficulty of the course. The blue tees are 6950 yards, rated 73.4 and have a slope rating of 132. The gold tees are 6096 yards, rated 69.4 and have a slope rating of 125.
The Club boasts no tee times because of the limited number of members and composition of its membership which typically allows “walk on and play”. Sunnyside’s golf staff provides members with outstanding leadership, instruction and personal attention.
